Hey, horse girl! I’m Kate Kosnoff.
I created Kate at the In Gate photography in 2018 armed with three things: a basic Nikon DSLR camera, a love for horses, and the absolute refusal to ever work in a cubicle wearing a polyester pant suit. Something about being a wild, untameable mustang at heart or whatever.
Since then, I’ve photographed countless ponies, followed the traveling circus that is horse showing as a private client photographer, and ridden and shown my own horses, too.
I learned the hard way what happens when you don’t take care of yourself. Despite fulfilling my childhood dream to eat, sleep, and breathe horses, trying to run a business on my own while attempting to ride and show at the same time pushed me to the deepest, darkest burnout. After taking a step back from the equestrian industry, selling my beloved show horse, and working in a corporate setting (thankfully no cubicle or pant suit was involved), my heart pulled me right back to where it all began: equestrian photography.
The horse girl identity grows with us through every stage of life. No matter where you’re at in your horse girl journey, I want to capture it.
The in gate is exactly what it sounds like: the gap in fencing where a horse and rider pair enters the show ring.
It’s where the girth is checked one last time, trainers send clients off with a “good luck and have fun!”, reins are shortened, deep breaths are taken, shoulders are rolled back, and judging begins. It’s kind of a big deal (at least to me). Oh, and it rhymes with my name so that’s cool, too.
I am based in Indianapolis, Indiana and travel throughout the Midwest.
I am willing to hit the road and go anywhere where I have at least 3 sessions!
Earning champion with Breadwinner at the Winter Equestrian Festival in 2022 and walking under the iconic green bridge and into the international ring for the parade of champions.
Talk about a childhood dream come true!

While I loved working as a private client photographer, I am not currently photographing horse shows at this time to preserve my mental and emotional health!
Never say never, so I might come back one day.
